Durable, faced insulation solutions perfect for metal buildings, warehouses, and commercial facilities in Arizona.
When it comes to insulating metal buildings, pole barns, warehouses, and industrial facilities in Phoenix, AZ, standard unfaced fiberglass batts simply will not cut it. These structures require an insulation solution that not only provides excellent thermal resistance but also acts as a heavy-duty vapor barrier and offers a clean, finished interior appearance. That is exactly where Vinyl Scrim Paper (often referred to as WMP-VR or metal building insulation) excels.
Vinyl scrim paper insulation consists of a fiberglass blanket bonded to a highly durable, reinforced facing. The facing is typically composed of a white vinyl or polypropylene film, reinforced with a fiberglass scrim (a woven grid that provides immense tear strength), and backed by kraft paper. This creates a highly reflective, incredibly strong barrier that protects the insulation and brightens the interior of the building.
Commercial and agricultural buildings face unique challenges, particularly regarding moisture control and interior durability. Here is why vinyl scrim insulation is the industry standard for these applications:
Exceptional Vapor Retarder: Metal buildings are highly susceptible to condensation. When warm, moist interior air hits cold metal roof panels, water drips down, ruining inventory and causing rust. The vinyl scrim facing acts as a heavy-duty vapor barrier with an incredibly low perm rating, completely stopping moisture transfer.
High Tear Strength: Industrial environments are tough. The fiberglass scrim reinforcement grid woven into the facing makes it highly resistant to tearing, puncturing, and damage from birds, tools, or machinery.
Clean, Finished Look: The bright white vinyl facing provides a clean, professional finish to the interior of a warehouse or shop. You do not need to install drywall or paneling over it.
Enhanced Lighting Efficiency: The white, reflective surface of the vinyl facing bounces light around the interior of the building. This drastically improves visibility and reduces the number of light fixtures required to illuminate a large warehouse space.
Fire Safety Ratings: High-quality vinyl scrim facings are treated to achieve a Class A fire rating, ensuring they meet the strict fire and safety codes required for commercial structures.

At Spray Foam Sanchez, our commercial crews install vinyl scrim faced insulation in a wide variety of structures across Arizona.
This is the most common application. The insulation is rolled out over the purlins before the metal roof panels are screwed down, or installed between the girts on the exterior walls. It provides the essential thermal break between the metal framing and the exterior panels.
Keeping inventory at a stable temperature and protecting it from condensation drips is critical. Vinyl scrim insulation provides the necessary climate control while offering a durable interior finish.
Livestock facilities, equestrian arenas, and equipment storage barns benefit greatly from the moisture control and bright interior provided by faced insulation.
The acoustic properties of the fiberglass backing help deaden echoes in large, cavernous spaces, while the durable facing withstands the occasional impact from sports equipment.
Installing metal building insulation requires specific techniques to ensure the vapor barrier remains continuous and uncompromised.
Installing metal building insulation requires specific techniques to ensure the vapor barrier remains continuous and uncompromised.
During new construction, we typically install the insulation over the roof purlins. The rolls are stretched tight, and the seams are overlapped and sealed. The facing usually features a factory-applied adhesive tab on one edge. Our installers peel back the release paper and press the overlapping edge down, creating a seamless, airtight, and watertight seal across the entire roof deck.
For retrofitting existing metal buildings, we utilize banding systems. High-tensile steel or plastic bands are screwed to the bottom of the roof purlins, creating a grid. The vinyl scrim insulation is then fed above the banding and tucked neatly between the purlins. This provides a massive upgrade to older, uninsulated buildings without needing to remove the roof panels.
Commercial insulation is a completely different beast than residential work. It requires specialized equipment, fall-protection safety training, and the ability to work efficiently at heights. Spray Foam Sanchez is a fully licensed Arizona contractor with over 25 years of experience. We understand the complexities of commercial building codes and work seamlessly with general contractors and steel erectors to keep your project moving forward without delays.
Yes. The vinyl facing is highly durable and water-resistant. It can be gently washed down with a mild detergent and water to remove dust or dirt, making it ideal for agricultural or dusty industrial environments.
Vinyl scrim faced fiberglass comes in a variety of thicknesses, typically ranging from R-10 (about 3 inches thick) up to R-30 (about 9 inches thick). For higher R-values, we can install a double-layer system.
Yes. The thick fiberglass blanket behind the facing is excellent at absorbing sound waves. It significantly reduces the echoing effect common in empty metal buildings and dampens the noise of heavy rain or hail hitting the metal roof.
Protect your inventory, lower your energy costs, and improve the working environment of your metal building with professional vinyl scrim insulation.
